Dedicated to discovering and sharing all things Canadian.
Our goal at Little Village is to discover and share great Canadian products and makers on a daily basis.
In the language of the St. Lawrence Iroquois, the word Canada ('kanata') means village. When Jacques Cartier arrived in North America, he named the vast territory 'le pays des Canadas' - the land of villages.
Although great distance separates the villages of the East and West, North and South, we are all linked by a single defining characteristic - we belong to the little village that is Canada.
A village brings to mind people - the mingling of unique personalities and diverse cultures. Friends and neighbours bustling about their day, shop owners hawking their wares, children at play. We envisage Little Village as the online equivalent - a place where people can gather to visit, promote, learn and buy all things Canadian.
In an ideal world, all Canadian products would be sourced and manufactured in Canada but this is not always possible. At times, the raw materials, technology or skills cannot be found within our borders. We will provide as much information on the Canadian-ness of each featured item. We do promise that if you purchase any of the items promoted on our site, you will be supporting fellow Canadians - whether individual makers or large companies.
If there are any errors in our information, please let us know and we will correct our mistakes as quickly as possible.
We love our American and overseas products and dislike protectionist rhetoric. Open and free markets make the world go round. Our goal is to share great local products and encourage you to support Canadian makers as much as possible.
